AMCON Distributing Co. reported first-quarter earnings growth as its wholesale distribution business continued to offset losses in its smaller retail segment, the convenience and foodservice distributor said.
AMCON’s wholesale distribution segment generated $719.3 million in revenue during the quarter and operating income of $6.9 million. The company’s retail health food segment reported revenue of $10.8 million and an operating loss of $0.2 million.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Atayan said AMCON continues to emphasize customer service, proprietary foodservice programs and store-level merchandising as independent retailers face intensifying competition, including from quick-service restaurants. He said the company remains active in evaluating acquisition opportunities within the convenience and foodservice distribution industry.
President and chief operating officer Andrew C. Plummer said retailers are increasingly adopting AMCON’s integrated advertising, design, print and electronic display programs as they seek ways to drive traffic and improve in-store execution.
Chief financial officer Charles Schmaderer said the company maintained a strong focus on liquidity and balance-sheet management during the quarter. Shareholders’ equity totaled $114.1 million as of Dec. 31, 2025.
Schmaderer also said inflationary pressures continued to affect the convenience distribution industry, contributing to higher operating expenses related to product costs, labor and employee benefits, equipment, and insurance.
Through subsidiaries including Team Sledd LLC and Henry’s Foods Inc., AMCON distributes beverages, candy, tobacco, groceries, foodservice items, frozen and refrigerated foods, automotive supplies, and health and beauty care products. The company serves customers in 34 states from 14 distribution centers across the Midwest and Mountain regions.
AMCON also operates 15 health and natural product retail stores in the Midwest and Florida through its Healthy Edge Retail Group.
