White Cap, a big North American distributor of specialty construction supplies and safety products, has agreed to acquire Colony Hardware, a regional U.S. distributor of tools, equipment, supplies, safety products, and jobsite services serving residential, commercial, and industrial contractors.
The transaction is expected to close shortly, subject to customary conditions.
Colony is headquartered in Orange, Connecticut, and operates more than 60 branches across the Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South and Florida, supported by more than 1,100 associates.
White Cap operates more than 500 branches across North America and employs more than 11,000 people, supporting approximately 200,000 customers with products that include concrete accessories and chemicals, tools and equipment, building materials and fasteners, erosion and waterproofing products, and safety supplies.
“White Cap and Colony Hardware share a culture built on service and long-term relationships,” said White Cap CEO Alan Sollenberger. “Once the transaction is closed, we will offer customers an even stronger suite of products, value-added services, and technical solutions, with more convenient access across an expanded network of locations. With the combination of our businesses, we will be able to provide even better service to our customers.”
Colony CEO Larry Stoddard said the combination is “a natural step for Colony due to our mutual focus on how we serve our customers — putting the customer first through teamwork.” He added that the combined company will pair Colony’s delivery and distribution capabilities with White Cap’s footprint and technical strengths to provide “even more convenience and value for our customers,” and that associates will benefit from “greater resources and new career paths.”
Expanded Network, Enhanced Jobsite Service
The acquisition strengthens White Cap’s position in a distribution landscape where density, jobsite delivery and integrated services are increasingly essential competitive differentiators.
Colony’s direct-to-jobsite delivery model and tool repair and rental services complement White Cap’s national scale and broad product portfolio. Combined, the network expands local access and distribution density across key construction markets in the Eastern and Central U.S., potentially shortening delivery routes and improving responsiveness for contractors.
Contractors increasingly expect suppliers to deliver products directly to jobsites, consolidate multiple categories of materials under one supplier relationship and provide services that go beyond simple product fulfillment. The combined company’s footprint and service capabilities address those demands while offering broader product access and deeper value-added services.
Industry Implications
For industry observers, the deal reflects an ongoing trend toward consolidation among distributors that can blend national scale with localized execution and service depth. As distribution networks expand and jobsite expectations continue to rise, companies with deeper branch networks and enhanced service offerings are better positioned to capture growth in construction and specialty markets.
