Echo Electric, a Midwest electrical distributor owned by global distributor Sonepar, has agreed to acquire Shaw Supply, a Kansas City, Missouri-based electrical distributor that has operated as a family-owned business since 1957.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition is expected to close at the end of March, according to the company.
Shaw Supply employs more than 30 associates and operates as a full-line distributor serving electrical contractors and other commercial customers in the Kansas City area and western Missouri.
Chris Scarbrough, president of Echo Electric, said the company plans to integrate Shaw Supply into its existing regional network.
“Shaw Supply has built a remarkable business grounded in hard work and exceptional service,” Scarbrough said. “They have invested in their associates’ technical expertise in order to offer personalized service and the best possible solutions to customers.”
Brian and Patrick Shaw, co-owners of Shaw Supply, said the transaction will give employees and customers access to a broader distribution platform.
The deal expands Echo Electric’s footprint in the Kansas City market and western Missouri as the distributor continues building a regional platform across the Midwest.
Echo Electric consolidated five previously separate Midwest distribution operations under the Echo brand in 2025. The combined organization now operates more than 60 locations and employs about 1,300 associates across 10 states, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, southern South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota.
The company distributes electrical products, equipment and related services to contractors, industrial companies, utilities, and institutional customers. It also offers specialized services including panel and switchboard assembly, control panel design, cable management services, and utility substation packages.
Echo Electric is part of Sonepar, a privately held electrical distribution company headquartered in Paris. Sonepar reported global sales of $35.2 billion in 2024 and operates in 40 countries with about 46,000 employees.
Sonepar entered the U.S. market in 1998 and now operates more than 570 locations nationwide with about 12,800 associates through a network of regional distribution companies.
