Why It Matters to Distributors: The move highlights how some large distributors are shifting digital and IT responsibilities closer to operating units, especially when businesses like automotive and industrial distribution have different customer, product, and technology requirements.
Genuine Parts Co. said its top technology and digital executive will step down next month, with the company opting to redistribute responsibilities across its automotive and industrial businesses rather than name a successor.
In a March 18, filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Atlanta-based distributor said Naveen Krishna, executive vice president and chief information and digital officer, notified the company of his intent to resign to pursue other opportunities.
Krishna will step down as an executive officer effective April 1, and remain with the company through May 5 to assist with an orderly transition, according to the filing.
The company said it does not intend to appoint a successor at this time. Responsibilities tied to the role will be reallocated to other individuals within the organization.
Krishna will not receive severance benefits in connection with his voluntary departure, the company said.
Krishna joined Genuine Parts in 2021 and has led enterprise information technology and digital strategy across its global operations. His role covered both company’s primary business segments: its automotive operations, anchored by the NAPA Auto Parts brand, and its industrial segment, Motion.
Genuine Parts operates through these two core units:
- The automotive segment, which distributes replacement parts through NAPA and other networks to professional installers and retail customers.
- The industrial segment, Motion, which supplies maintenance, repair and operations products and services to industrial customers.
Krishna’s position oversaw systems, data, and digital capabilities across both segments. The company’s decision not to replace the role indicates those responsibilities will now be managed within the business units or existing leadership structure.
Genuine Parts did not disclose how those duties will be divided or whether they plan to fill the role in the future.
