Why This Matters to Distributors: The deal reflects continued consolidation in specialty metals distribution as companies seek broader geographic coverage, stronger contractor relationships and expanded fulfillment capabilities across construction and industrial markets.
EMS has acquired American Metals Supply, a distributor of aluminum products serving patio, residential, commercial, and industrial markets. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
AMS, founded in Tampa, Florida, distributes aluminum products used in industrial, structural, and architectural applications. Over its 25-year history, the company expanded its operations across the U.S. while building a business focused on product availability and contractor service.
EMS CEO Mike Swedick said the acquisition expands the company’s geographic reach and strengthens its position in key aluminum end markets.
“Like EMS, American Metals Supply has a high touch service model that combines responsive service and consistent execution on the aluminum products that contractors and manufacturers rely on every day,” Swedick said in a statement.
AMS CEO Kevin Gonzalez said the transaction will help the company expand its capabilities and accelerate growth.
EMS is a value-added distributor of aluminum products serving industrial, commercial, residential, and marine markets. The company operates more than 20 distribution and manufacturing facilities totaling 2 million square feet.
The acquisition marks the seventh deal completed by EMS since its 2019 acquisition by private equity firm Wynnchurch Capital.
Wynnchurch has remained active in industrial and distribution investments, including recent acquisitions involving industrial handling equipment, metalworking businesses, and MRO distribution operations.
