Graybar Expands in New Jersey with Acquisition of Samson Electrical Supply

Why This Matters to Distributors: Graybar continues to build its national footprint through acquisitions, announcing its third deal of 2026. The transaction highlights continued consolidation in electrical distribution as large distributors strengthen regional coverage and expand customer relationships through established local businesses.

Graybar has agreed to acquire Samson Electrical Supply, a New Jersey-based electrical distributor, marking the company’s third acquisition of 2026 as it continues to expand its presence in the Northeast.

The transaction is expected to close in early August. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1949 and based in South Plainfield, New Jersey, Samson Electrical Supply distributes electrical products, lighting, power distribution equipment and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies to commercial, industrial, residential, institutional, and utility customers.

Following the acquisition, Samson will continue operating under its existing name with its current employees and supplier relationships, Graybar said.

“Samson Electrical Supply is a highly regarded company with a strong customer focus and deep roots in New Jersey,” Kathleen M. Mazzarella, Graybar’s chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement. “This acquisition expands Graybar’s presence in the region.”

Michael Cohen, president of Samson Electrical Supply, said the transaction will allow the company to maintain its longstanding relationships with customers, employees and suppliers while gaining access to Graybar’s resources and capabilities.

Graybar’s acquisition of Samson follows its purchases of Broken Arrow Electric Supply in March and American Electric Supply in May, making it the company’s third announced acquisition this year.

The latest deal continues a broader consolidation trend across the electrical distribution industry, where national distributors are acquiring established regional companies to expand geographic coverage, deepen local market presence and broaden product and service capabilities.

Graybar, a Fortune 500 employee-owned company, distributes electrical, industrial, automation, and communications products through a network of more than 355 distribution facilities across North America. The company also provides supply chain management and logistics services.

The Samson acquisition strengthens Graybar’s position in the Northeast while preserving Samson’s local brand and operating model, an approach Graybar has used in previous acquisitions.

With three acquisitions announced in less than five months, Graybar remains one of the most active acquirers in the electrical distribution sector in 2026.
