Ohio Valley Supply Closes After 78 Years in Building Materials Distribution

Why This Matters to Distributors: Ohio Valley Supply has ended operations after eight decades in specialty building materials distribution. The employee-owned company served fabricators, builders, designers, and kitchen-and-bath dealers across nine states and Washington, D.C.

Ohio Valley Supply Co., a Cincinnati-based wholesale distributor of specialty building materials and surface products, has closed after 78 years in business.

The company stopped serving customers and distributing products on July 31, according to a letter sent to customers, suppliers, and business partners.

“It is with mixed emotions that we announce Ohio Valley Supply Company will be winding down our operations,” the company said. July 31 was its final day serving customers and distributing products.

DSG has reached out to the company for comment on any additional details on the closing.

A small group of employees will remain with the company to complete the wind-down.

Ohio Valley Supply, also known as OVS, was founded in 1949 and operated as a wholesale distributor of specialty building and surface products. The 100% employee-owned company served customers across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C.

Its customers included fabricators, builders, architects, designers, kitchen-and-bath retailers, and national accounts serving residential and commercial construction markets.

The company’s product portfolio included Corian solid surface and Corian Quartz, along with laminates and other specialty surface and building products. Ohio Valley Supply sold through the trade rather than directly to consumers.

The company was headquartered in Cincinnati and operated a warehouse in York, Pennsylvania.

Ohio Valley Supply did not give a reason for the shutdown. It also did not disclose the number of employees affected or plans for its remaining inventory, customer accounts, facilities, or other assets.

The company did not indicate whether another distributor would acquire any of its operations or product lines.

“For 78 years, we have had the privilege of serving you and being part of this wonderful community,” Ohio Valley Supply said in its closing announcement.

The company also thanked its employees, customers, suppliers, and business partners for their support.

The closure ends eight decades for a regional distributor that supplied specialty building materials across a multistate territory. It also leaves customers and suppliers looking to other distributors to replace products and services previously provided by Ohio Valley Supply.
