Why This Matters to Distributors: American Piping Products is getting a new owner that plans to invest in geographic expansion and the industrial distributor’s commercial and operational capabilities. The deal also gives SCF Partners a distribution business with exposure to growing power generation and data center infrastructure markets.
SCF Partners has acquired American Piping Products, a distributor of steel pipe and related products serving more than 1,800 customers across industrial, energy, and infrastructure markets.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Founded in 1994, American Piping Products distributes seamless and welded steel pipe, mechanical tubing, fittings, and flanges. The company operates warehouses and sales offices across the United States and serves customers in the U.S. and international markets.
Its customers operate in industries including refining and chemicals, power generation, data centers, energy and liquefied natural gas. The company also has longstanding relationships with steel mills that supply its distribution network.

SCF said it plans to invest in American Piping Products’ geographic expansion and commercial and operational capabilities while providing additional capital to support existing and new customers and suppliers.
“APP has built its business by consistently delivering for our customers and developing strong, long-standing relationships with our suppliers,” American Piping Products CEO Mike Hubbell said. “As we look ahead, we see significant opportunities to expand our reach and capabilities while maintaining the service and reliability that have defined APP for more than 30 years.”
The acquisition gives SCF an industrial distribution business with exposure to several of the energy and infrastructure markets in which the investment firm already operates. It also expands SCF’s exposure to power generation and data center infrastructure, two markets the firm identified as growth opportunities for American Piping Products.
SCF, founded in 1989, invests in energy, power and industrial services, equipment, and technology companies. The firm said it has invested in more than 80 platform companies and completed more than 400 additional acquisitions.
American Piping Products will continue to be led by Hubbell, according to the announcement, which said SCF plans to work with Hubbell and the company’s existing team on its expansion.
The companies did not disclose American Piping Products’ annual revenue, number of employees or purchase price.
