Why This Matters to Distributors: Home Depot’s new Massachusetts distribution center expands its ability to supply contractors with bulk building materials delivered directly to job sites. The facility strengthens its competition with building materials distributors for project orders that require substantial inventory, scheduled deliveries, credit, and sales support.
Home Depot has opened a 1.1 million-square-foot distribution center in Westminster, Massachusetts, to deliver oversized and bulk building materials to contractors across greater Boston and New England.
The facility supports 80 stores and is the company’s 18th flatbed delivery center. It opened in August, according to Home Depot , and created more than 200 local jobs.
The center stocks building materials in quantities intended to fill large project orders and ships them directly to job sites through Home Depot’s flatbed delivery fleet. The expansion gives the retailer additional capacity to handle contractor purchases beyond those typically fulfilled through its stores.
“A Pro’s most valuable asset is their time,” said Michael Rowe, Home Depot’s executive vice president of Pro. He said the company is expanding its delivery network to help contractors obtain heavy materials while keeping crews on-site and projects on schedule.
Contractors can schedule deliveries, including same-day and next-day service on eligible items, the company said. Home Depot also offers trade credit that delays invoicing until materials are delivered, pricing based on purchasing needs and dedicated sales assistance with product selection and delivery logistics.
The combination of bulk inventory and job-site delivery targets services that building materials distributors provide to professional customers. Home Depot’s announcement also highlighted artificial intelligence-enabled project planning tools and its digital workspace for managing projects.
Home Depot said the Westminster facility is part of a broader expansion of its contractor delivery network and store footprint. It did not disclose the cost of the facility, projected sales, or a schedule for additional flatbed delivery centers.
