Richards Building Supply Expands in Colorado with United States Building Supply Acquisition

Why This Matters to Distributors: The deal expands Richards Building Supply’s footprint in the Mountain West and reflects continued consolidation among independent building products distributors seeking greater regional scale, contractor density and product breadth while maintaining family-owned operating models.

Richards Building Supply has acquired the assets of United States Building Supply, expanding its presence in Colorado and deepening its reach in the Western U.S. building products market.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

United States Building Supply distributes siding, windows, gutters, and related exterior building products to contractors through four Colorado locations, including Colorado Springs, two branches in Denver and a location in Loveland.

Richards said it plans to continue investing in the acquired operations, including employee benefits and expanded product and service offerings for contractors.

The acquisition gives Richards additional scale in Colorado, a market that continues to see steady residential and commercial construction activity and growing competition among regional and national building products distributors.

Ronald Guzior, CEO and president of Richards Building Supply, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s position as a family-owned independent distributor and expands its geographic reach in the West.

“We are thrilled to welcome this team into our family,” Guzior said in a statement. “This acquisition represents another win for family-owned and operated independent distributors.”

Guzior also said the company expects continued expansion opportunities in the South and other regions.

United States Building Supply owner Dewey Lane will remain with the business following the acquisition.

“After so many years of building our family-owned company, I cannot think of a better company to take this to the next level for both our customers and team members than Richards Building Supply,” Lane said in a statement.

Founded in 1978, Richards Building Supply operates more than 60 branches across 16 states. The company distributes residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows, doors, decking, cabinets and related building materials to contractors, remodelers, and restoration companies.

The transaction also highlights continued acquisition activity among independent distributors affiliated with buying groups and contractor-focused distribution networks as companies seek greater purchasing scale and regional density to compete with larger national distributors and vertically integrated building products companies.
