Privately-owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,372,000. This is 1.9% above the revised September estimate, but 4.2% below the October 2022 rate. This is according to data released by The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,487,000, 1.1% above the revised September rate. They were 4.4% below October 2022. Single‐family authorizations in October were at a rate of 968,000, 0.5% above September.
