Chicago-based Lawson Products Inc. (NASDAQ: LAWS), industrial distributor, has partnered with Green Boom, Atlanta-based zero-waste oil spill solutions provider, to replace toxic plastic-based absorbents.

The oil-spill industry dumps 8,000 tons of oil-soaked plastics into landfills each year, the equivalent of 54 million plastic straws. To eliminate this waste, Green Boom created the first EPA and USDA-certified compostable oil-only absorbent. The product absorbs the spilled oil and then is composted in weeks.
“Sustainability is a key concern for many customers, making the Green Boom solution an invaluable addition to our product offerings,” Dan Ritchie, senior manager, category strategy-automotive and safety, said.
