Why This Matters to Distributors: Distributors are expanding beyond traditional product sales and deeper into data center infrastructure services. As demand for data centers grows, distributors are seeking larger roles in cooling, power and lifecycle support services that generate recurring revenue and strengthen customer relationships.
Wesco International has agreed to acquire Newark Engineering Group, a Singapore-based provider of data center cooling and thermal management solutions, for approximately $136 million.
The Pittsburgh-based distributor announced June 15 that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Newark for 175 million Singapore dollars in a cash-free, debt-free transaction.
The acquisition expands Wesco’s presence in Southeast Asia and adds engineering, installation and maintenance capabilities for data center cooling systems, an increasingly key component of data center infrastructure as facilities becomes larger and more power intensive.
Newark provides design, equipment supply, installation, commissioning, and maintenance services for thermal management systems used in data centers and other mission-critical facilities. The company operates in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
According to Wesco, Newark generated approximately $60 million in revenue in 2025.
“The acquisition expands our participation in the data center value chain, particularly in engineered cooling and lifecycle services, and provides a strong growth platform in Southeast Asia,” Chairman, President and CEO John Engel said in a statement.
The deal gives Wesco additional exposure to one of the fastest-growing segments of industrial distribution. Global investment in data centers has accelerated as cloud computing providers, enterprise operators and artificial intelligence developers expand capacity to meet rising demand for computing power.
Wesco said it expects to combine Newark’s regional customer relationships and cooling expertise with its existing electrical, communications and supply chain offerings. Newark’s customer base includes global technology companies and other large enterprise operators.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Wesco reported approximately $24 billion in sales in 2025 and serves customers across the electrical, communications, utility, industrial and data center markets. Newark is headquartered in Singapore and maintains additional operations in Malaysia and Indonesia.
