Why This Matters to Distributors: API International is adding inventory and distribution capacity closer to customers in the eastern and southern U.S., cutting delivery times that previously stretched to a week. The expansion also points to growing demand from data centers, HVAC, waterworks, and other infrastructure markets, driving investment in regional distribution networks.
API International has expanded its Greenfield, Indiana, warehouse capacity by 75% as the industrial piping components supplier moves more inventory closer to customers in the eastern and southern U.S.
The Tualatin, Oregon-based company said Oct. 7 that the expansion increased its companywide warehouse and manufacturing capacity by 20%. The investment is designed to support growing demand across data centers, HVAC, waterworks, exhaust systems, and other industrial and infrastructure markets.
The biggest change is in delivery speed.
API International previously shipped many orders for eastern customers from Oregon, resulting in transit times of six to seven business days. With more inventory stocked in Indiana, the company said it can now reach customers in the East and South in one to three business days.
The Greenfield expansion also adds racking capable of storing another 60 to 70 containers of product and two forklifts to support increased warehouse throughput.
API International said the additional capacity will allow it to carry more inventory of key products, reducing the potential for stockouts and backorders as demand increases.
The company also increased job capacity at the Greenfield operation by 50%. It added a warehouse and facility supervisor, a warehouse operations lead and dedicated quality control support.
The facility stocks API International’s primary American Water Works Association and American National Standards Institute/American Society of Mechanical Engineers flange product lines, as well as original equipment manufacturer fittings and custom-fabricated industrial pipe components.
“API International sees this expansion as critical to supporting our growing customer needs,” Ric Henderson, vice president of sales. “It allows us to meet our customer base with shorter lead times, better availability, and improved responsiveness to customer demand.”
The expansion also gives API International additional quality control resources closer to customers in the South and East, reducing the need to route product issues back to its Oregon operation.
API International manufactures and distributes flanges, expansion joints, valve accessories, pipe fittings, and custom-fabricated components. Its customers span waterworks, HVAC, energy and power generation, marine, mining, agriculture, exhaust, and other industrial markets.
The company said it serves more than 1,500 customers across the U.S., Canada and Mexico and ships more than 2.2 million products annually.
API International said it is considering additional U.S. stocking and production locations as part of its longer-term manufacturing, logistics and distribution strategy.
