Kian Invests in Allen Supply as Door Distributor Acquires TAP Industries

Why This Matters to Distributors: Kian Capital Partners’ investment and Allen Supply’s acquisition of TAP Industries create a larger commercial door and hardware distributor serving the Midwest and Central United States. The combined business plans to expand its product offerings and services while pursuing additional acquisitions.

Kian Capital Partners has invested in commercial door and hardware distributor Allen Supply, which subsequently acquired Tennessee-based TAP Industries, establishing a regional business with plans for further acquisitions.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1950, Allen Supply operates facilities in Saginaw and Traverse City, Michigan. It distributes commercial metal and architectural wood doors, hardware, and residential doors and hardware, primarily serving health care and education markets. The company also fabricates, cuts and processes materials at its warehouses to customize products for customers.

“With the support of the Kian team, we look forward to expanding our reach and bringing our expertise and high-quality products to more customers across the Midwest and Central U.S.,” Allen Supply president Mike Hirschman said.

TAP Industries, founded in 1983 and based in Jackson, Tennessee, distributes commercial doors, frames, and hardware, along with bathroom partitions and accessories. It serves general contractors building schools, manufacturing facilities, health clinics, and other commercial buildings in Tennessee and across the Central United States.

TAP president Bill Killen will remain with the business. He said the combination will allow the companies to share operating practices, expand their geographic reach, and broaden their product and service offerings.

“Together, we’ll be able to enhance our respective capabilities and product offerings and set our sights on becoming a one-stop, turnkey distributor for our customers,” Killen said.

Kian plans to support growth through expanded sales, entry into related product categories and additional services. The combined business is seeking partnerships with commercial door and hardware distributors across the Midwest and Central United States.

Kian partner Matt Levenson said the firm sees acquisition opportunities in a fragmented door, hardware, and access control market. He cited aging infrastructure, construction and renovation activity, and an increased focus on security as factors supporting the investment.

The transactions expand Kian’s distribution portfolio. The firm has $1.1 billion in capital under management and invests in founder- and owner-operated businesses in essential services and distribution.

Golden Circle Investment Banking advised Allen Supply, and Carnegie Point advised TAP Industries. Robinson Bradshaw served as legal counsel to Kian.
