Ingram Micro Patents Technology to Connect Supplier and Customer Systems

Why This Matters to Distributors: Custom integrations can make it costly to connect suppliers and customers to a distributor’s digital platform. Ingram Micro says its patented technology automates that work, helping partners exchange transaction data through existing systems and providing a foundation for broader automation and artificial intelligence applications.

Ingram Micro Holding Corp. has received a U.S. patent for technology designed to connect suppliers and customers to its Xvantage digital platform without custom coding, extending the technology distributor’s efforts to automate transactions across its network.

The Irvine, California-based company said the technology allows trading partners to connect through their existing systems, data formats, and business processes, reducing the need for custom development and ongoing integration maintenance.

Called the Vendor and Customer Agnostic Framework, the technology analyzes partner data and business requirements, then automatically generates, validates, and deploys the configurations needed to connect systems, according to Ingram Micro. The announcement did not include a patent number or measured results for cost savings or onboarding speed.

The framework supports transactions on both sides of Ingram Micro’s distribution business. Vendors can use it to exchange product catalogs, quotes, bids, purchase orders, invoices, and other information. Technology solution providers can use it to convert emails into orders and quotes and support accounts receivable, payments, and reporting.

Those connections are part of Ingram Micro’s strategy to expand Xvantage, its artificial intelligence-powered platform, from transaction processing into a broader system for managing business operations.

“Ingram Micro is evolving from a transaction-based business into a platform powered by compounding intelligence,” said Sanjib Sahoo, executive vice president and president of the company’s Global Platform Group.

Sahoo said each additional connection strengthens the network and increases the platform’s value. Ingram Micro said the framework is designed to accommodate partners’ existing workflows while supporting greater automation as their businesses change.

Connecting information from different systems also supports the company’s AI strategy. Ingram Micro said the framework provides a foundation for automating processes, generating insights, and acting on data across its network.

“For AI to deliver meaningful business outcomes, organizations need access to connected, trusted data,” said Dham Pathervellai, Ingram Micro’s chief technology officer.

Partners can connect through Ingram Micro’s application programming interfaces or continue using their existing protocols and formats, the company said. The framework adapts those connections behind the scenes.

Ingram Micro distributes technology products and services from manufacturers and cloud providers to technology solution providers serving business customers. The company said the patented technology will support its effort to simplify those relationships through Xvantage.
