IDI, Insulation Distributors Inc. has acquired Design North Supply, a regional distributor of spray foam insulation products and equipment serving contractors across the Northwestern United States and Alaska, the company announced June 30.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition expands IDI’s distribution network across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington and Alaska through Design North Supply’s operations in Billings, Montana, and Anchorage, Alaska.
Founded in 2020, Design North distributes spray polyurethane foam, polyurea products, protective coatings and spray foam equipment to insulation contractors throughout the region.
“Design North has had accelerated growth since their inception, which makes them a natural fit for our expansion plans in the Northwest,” said IDI President Chris Novogratz.
IDI said Design North customers will continue working with the same local team while gaining access to the company’s national distribution network and broader product portfolio. The expanded offering includes fiberglass, mineral wool, cellulose insulation and related accessories.
Founded in 1979, IDI is a family-owned distributor of insulation materials, equipment and accessories serving insulation contractors nationwide. The company operates 70 locations across the United States.
The transaction continues a broader pattern of consolidation in specialty building products distribution as distributors expand into new geographic markets and add specialized product capabilities to support contractors.
The acquisition also strengthens IDI’s position in the spray foam segment, which has experienced increased demand as contractors focus on higher-performance insulation and building envelope systems.
