GME Supply Acquires Commercial Supply, Expands Construction and Renewable Energy Business

Why This Matters to Distributors: The acquisition adds contractor relationships in renewable energy and civil construction, along with equipment rental, kitting, and industrial textile production. It also expands GME Supply’s Midwest distribution capabilities.

GME Supply acquired Commercial Supply Co., a Des Moines, Iowa-based distributor serving construction, renewable energy and industrial contractors, the companies announced Nov. 3. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands the product offerings and Midwest reach of Columbia, Missouri-based GME Supply, a distributor of safety equipment, tools, training, and customized workwear. Commercial Supply will continue operating from its Des Moines location, with its existing team remaining in place.

Founded in 1948, Commercial Supply serves utility-scale solar and wind contractors, general and specialty contractors, civil and industrial construction firms, and municipalities. Its customers are located throughout the Midwest and elsewhere in the United States.

The company distributes power tools, personal protective equipment, fall protection, testing equipment, and job site consumables. It also provides specialized sourcing and kitting services, which group products for customer requirements.

Commercial Supply brings capabilities beyond product distribution, including the sale and rental of VelociWrapper cable-wrapping equipment. It also produces industrial textiles used in construction, including burlap, paving covers, and wiping rags.

“Commercial Supply has earned a strong reputation by understanding what contractors need and delivering solutions that keep projects moving,” said Ryan Keogh, CEO of GME Supply.

The deal supports GME’s strategy of expanding its distribution business across infrastructure markets. Commercial Supply adds relationships in renewable energy and civil construction, while its customers gain access to GME’s broader inventory, technical resources and distribution centers in the United States and Canada, according to the announcement.

Commercial Supply co-owners Brad Lilienthal and Jason Curry will join GME Supply. Lilienthal, Commercial Supply’s president, said the combination would provide additional products and resources while extending the company’s reach.

“With access to a broader range of products, additional resources and a national distribution network, we can build on what we’ve established and serve more customers across more markets,” Lilienthal said.

The announcement did not disclose Commercial Supply’s revenue, employee count, or the co-owners’ roles following the acquisition.
