Meritus Gas Partners Names AI Operations Director as Enterprise Push Expands

Why This Matters to Distributors: Meritus Gas Partners is putting dedicated leadership behind artificial intelligence as it standardizes technology and data across its network of industrial gas and welding supply businesses.

Meritus Gas Partners has named Robert “Rob” D’Alessandro Jr. director of AI operations, putting him in charge of artificial intelligence initiatives across the distributor’s growing network of independent businesses.

D’Alessandro will lead the identification, prioritization, development, and implementation of AI projects, Meritus said. His responsibilities also include AI governance, security, and training. He reports to Allen Jezouit, vice president of product management and digital marketing.

The appointment comes as Meritus moves toward a common enterprise resource planning system, which the company said will improve data integrity and visibility as it expands its use of AI.

Meritus also said several of its partner companies are already using AI and achieving results, although the company did not identify the applications or disclose performance metrics. “AI is one of the most consequential business opportunities of our time,” Jezouit said. “Meritus is ready to embrace comprehensive AI implementation. We are moving to a common ERP system with improved data integrity and visibility.”

Jezouit said D’Alessandro will provide a centralized resource as Meritus expands AI adoption across the organization. “Several Meritus partners are already achieving strong results,” he said. “Rob will be a dedicated central resource to help accelerate adoption across the enterprise while strengthening governance and security.”

D’Alessandro joins Meritus from investment bank TM Capital, a division of Capstone Partners, where he advised family-owned and privately held businesses on sell-side mergers and acquisitions across the business services, industrial and consumer sectors.

His work included analyzing financial and operating data and working with management teams at companies of varying sizes and levels of technological sophistication. Meritus said that experience exposed him to opportunities to use technology, including AI, to improve productivity, access to information and decision-making.

Jezouit also cited D’Alessandro’s experience implementing AI productivity tools while working in investment banking. D’Alessandro earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management in 2023, with concentrations in finance, management, and leadership.

Founded in December 2020 and headquartered in New York, Meritus is a portfolio company of AEA Enterprise. The company is building a national network of independent distributors of industrial, medical and specialty gases and welding and safety supplies.

The appointment centralizes responsibility for identifying and implementing AI projects while establishing governance, security, and training practices as Meritus expands use of the technology across its businesses.
