TD SYNNEX to Acquire Specialty Technology Distributor BlueStar

Why This Matters to Distributors: TD SYNNEX is expanding further into technologies that connect information technology with warehouses, manufacturing, and other physical operations. Acquiring BlueStar would add specialized expertise in automatic identification and data capture, operational technology, radio-frequency identification, mobility, and robotics to TD SYNNEX’s global distribution platform.

TD SYNNEX has agreed to acquire specialty technology distributor BlueStar, expanding its reach into operational technology, radio-frequency identification, mobility, robotics, and other technologies increasingly used to connect digital systems with warehouses and industrial operations.

The companies announced the definitive agreement Oct. 7. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. TD SYNNEX did not provide an expected closing date. The companies will continue operating independently until the transaction is completed.

BlueStar specializes in automatic identification and data capture, or AIDC, as well as operational technology, mobility, radio-frequency identification, point-of-sale systems, digital signage, networking, robotics, and security technology.

The acquisition would give TD SYNNEX a more specialized position in markets extending beyond its traditional information technology distribution business. BlueStar’s technologies are used for applications including inventory identification and tracking, mobile computing, point-of-sale operations, and automation.

“BlueStar has built an outstanding reputation through specialization, technical expertise and an unwavering commitment to its partners,” Reyna Thompson, president of North America for TD SYNNEX, said.

Thompson said BlueStar’s expertise in AIDC, operational technology, mobility, radio-frequency identification, and point-of-sale technology would be combined with TD SYNNEX’s global resources and distribution reach.

BlueStar CEO Ryan Girvin said the transaction would give the company access to additional resources while maintaining its specialized approach to the market.

The deal comes as TD SYNNEX broadens its portfolio in technologies that connect computing and artificial intelligence with physical operations.

Also on Oct. 7, TD SYNNEX announced a distribution agreement with industrial automation company KUKA covering autonomous mobile robots. The initial rollout includes the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and the Benelux countries, with additional markets planned.

Taken together, the announcements show TD SYNNEX building capabilities in robotics, operational technology and other systems increasingly used in warehouses, factories, and commercial operations.

TD SYNNEX serves more than 150,000 customers in more than 100 countries. The Fremont, California, and Clearwater, Florida-based company distributes information technology hardware, software, and systems, with a portfolio that includes cybersecurity, analytics, artificial intelligence, mobility, and cloud technologies.

Its Hyve Solutions business also designs, manufactures, and delivers computing, cloud, and connected infrastructure for technology companies.
