Henry Schein One says it has launched a set of AI and automation-driven workflows built directly into its Dentrix and Dentrix Ascend software, with new tools aimed at insurance intake, eligibility checks, chairside imaging support, and clinical documentation.
The rollout follows Henry Schein One’s partnership announcement with Amazon Web Services to integrate AWS generative AI technologies across its dental platforms, including Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend and Dentally.
“Our goal isn’t piecemeal AI and automation — it’s natively embedded AI with a purpose,” said Dr. Ryan Hungate, chief clinical and strategy officer at Henry Schein One.
The company highlighted its Forms workflow, which captures insurance information from a photo of a patient’s card, as a front-end step designed to reduce manual data entry and downstream errors.
Matt Hall, chief experience officer at Smile Brands Inc., said the DSO has rolled Forms out across its practices on Ascend. “The new forms save our front office teams significant time,” Hall said in the release.
Henry Schein One also introduced Eligibility Pro, which it said pulls real-time benefits information from insurance portals and adds coverage details to the patient record before the appointment.
For imaging, Henry Schein One said Detect AI—powered by VideaHealth—uses FDA-cleared algorithms to flag findings such as caries and bone loss on X-rays.
The company also announced Voice Notes, a generative AI tool that transcribes and summarizes chairside conversations into clinical records in real time.
Note on a key stat: Henry Schein One’s release says a “Yale University study” found a 15% decrease in burnout within 30 days of using an AI scribe.
Yale’s summary of that study reports that clinician burnout fell from 51.9% to 38.8% after 30 days, which the authors describe as 74% lower odds of burnout.
Henry Schein One also detailed a Phones workflow that connects calls to patient records, including call pop-ups and AI-generated summaries and sentiment.
The company said it is also adding “Claire,” a multilingual 24/7 support assistant available by chat or phone.
