Proton.ai Launches Integrated Software Platform for Distributors

Why It Matters to Distributors: Distributors are under pressure to simplify fragmented tech stacks, and platforms that unify CRM, product data and ecommerce workflows could reduce operating costs while improving sales execution.

Proton.ai is rolling out a platform that combines multiple distribution software tools into a single system, as companies seek to reduce complexity from disconnected applications.

The platform brings together customer relationship management, product information management, ecommerce recommendations and quote and order entry automation on a shared data layer. Proton.ai said the system is designed to replace standalone tools that often require manual data transfers and ongoing integrations.

Distributors commonly operate with separate systems for sales, product data, and ecommerce, which can create inefficiencies and increase operating costs.

“Distributors have been sold point solutions for years and told it’s their job to make them work together,” said Benj Cohen, founder and chief executive of Proton.ai.

The platform includes four core functions: a CRM that uses artificial intelligence to guide sales activity, a product information system that standardizes supplier data, an ecommerce recommendation engine based on purchase history, and a tool that converts emailed or document-based orders into structured entries. The order automation feature is currently in a waitlist phase.

Product data remains a key challenge for distributors. Research from the National Association of Electrical Distributors estimates poor product data costs electrical distributors about $2.4 billion annually through lost sales, returns, and manual processing.

Charlie Connerly, vice president of information technology at Trade Supply Group, said inconsistent product data had been a significant issue prior to adopting the company’s tools.

MSC Industrial Supply Co., an early customer, has used Proton.ai’s technology since 2021 to improve efficiency and support revenue generation, CEO Martina McIsaac said.

Proton.ai said additional capabilities, including pricing and inventory management, are in development.
