Why This Matters to Distributors: GMS is expanding its Pacific Northwest footprint and exterior building products business with the acquisition of Evergreen Building Products. The deal adds four Washington locations and exterior insulation and finish systems, stucco and stone products as GMS and parent SRS Distribution continue to expand Home Depot’s specialty distribution network.
GMS has acquired the assets of Evergreen Building Products, adding four locations in Washington and expanding its exterior building products business across the Pacific Northwest.
Atlanta-based GMS said on Aug. 19 the acquisition will expand its residential and commercial customer base across Washington, Oregon and Idaho while adding exterior insulation and finish systems, or EIFS, stucco, stone, and related products.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Evergreen will continue operating under its existing name and branding. Founder and owner Chris Burrows will continue managing the business in coordination with GMS’ Northwest Division leadership.
“We are excited to bring Evergreen and their exceptional team of product experts into GMS’s family of companies,” GMS CEO John C. Turner Jr. said.
Turner said the acquisition will expand GMS’ customer base across the region while increasing its exterior cladding product offerings and market coverage.
The transaction also continues the expansion of GMS under SRS Distribution and Home Depot. GMS is a subsidiary of SRS, which Home Depot acquired in 2024.
GMS Adds Exterior Products
Founded 30 years ago, Evergreen distributes EIFS, stone, stucco, and related exterior building products.
Product expansion is significant for GMS, whose core categories include wallboard, ceilings, steel framing, and complementary construction products.
Adding Evergreen gives GMS a larger presence in exterior cladding while broadening the range of products it can sell to residential and commercial contractors in the Pacific Northwest.
“For nearly 30 years, our success has been built on the dedication of our employees and the loyalty of our customers,” Burrows said. “Joining with GMS, our people, our culture, and our commitment to service will continue to thrive.”
Burrows said the transaction will allow Evergreen to retain its identity while gaining additional resources to support growth.
Keeping Evergreen’s name and management in place also allows GMS to retain the distributor’s local customer relationships and product expertise as it integrates the business into its Northwest operations.
Acquisition Builds Out Home Depot’s Distribution Network
The deal comes as Home Depot expands its specialty distribution business and works to capture a larger share of professional contractors’ spending.
GMS operates more than 330 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada, along with 100 tool sales, rental and service centers.
The company became part of SRS following SRS’ acquisition of GMS. SRS is a wholly owned Home Depot subsidiary.
Home Depot has been working to connect those specialty distribution businesses with its existing stores, outside sales teams and digital operations.
During Home Depot’s second-quarter earnings call Aug. 18, executives said about 90% of its stores had completed an SRS sale through the company’s QuoteCenter platform during the previous 12 months.
Home Depot also plans to open 40 to 50 additional SRS locations during fiscal 2026.
The Evergreen acquisition shows that expansion is occurring through acquisitions as well as new branches.
For GMS, the deal adds established locations, customers, and product expertise in a region where the distributor already operates. It also expands GMS beyond its traditional interior building products categories into a broader exterior cladding assortment.
For Home Depot, the transaction adds another regional distributor to a specialty distribution network that already spans roofing, wallboard, ceilings, steel framing, landscaping, pools, HVAC, and other building products.
The acquisition is minor compared with Home Depot’s purchase of SRS or SRS’ acquisition of GMS, but it illustrates how those platforms can be used to make additional regional acquisitions.
Rather than building every new market or product category from the ground up, GMS and SRS can acquire established distributors with existing branches, specialized employees, and contractor relationships.
For competing distributors, the Evergreen deal is another sign that Home Depot’s Pro strategy is extending deeper into local and regional distribution markets. The company is not only integrating SRS and GMS into its broader operations; those businesses are continuing to acquire distributors and expand their product offerings under Home Depot ownership.
