Border States’ appointment of a vice president dedicated to information security reflects the growing importance distributors are placing on protecting digital operations and customer data.
Border States has promoted longtime cybersecurity leader Kelly Rudolf to vice president of information security, elevating cybersecurity leadership as distributors contend with rising cyber fraud and increasingly complex digital threats.
Rudolf, who joined the Fargo, North Dakota-based electrical distributor in 2003, most recently served as information security director. In his new role, he will oversee the company’s cybersecurity strategy, enterprise risk management and cyber resilience initiatives as Border States continues to expand its digital capabilities.
“The impact of Kelly’s leadership extends beyond technology,” chief information officer Jason Stein said. “Having an employee-owner of his caliber in this role is remarkable. As VP information security, Kelly will continue leading Border States’ efforts to enhance cyber resilience, manage enterprise risk and support the company’s ongoing growth and digital transformation.”
The promotion highlights a broader shift taking place across wholesale distribution, where cybersecurity is moving beyond traditional information technology functions to become an enterprise-level business priority. As distributors rely more heavily on digital commerce, cloud platforms, warehouse automation and artificial intelligence, cyberattacks have the potential to disrupt operations, delay shipments, and expose sensitive customer and supplier data.
