Why It Matters to Distributors: Home Depot’s move underscores how large distributors are embedding AI and data into core operations, raising expectations for digital experience, sales execution, and supply chain coordination across the industry.
The Home Depot has named Franziska “Fran” Bell executive vice president and chief technology officer, effective April 6.
Bell will lead the retailer’s technology strategy, including product management, data, and artificial intelligence, as Home Depot expands its digital capabilities across stores, ecommerce, and professional contractor services.
She joined Ford Motor Co., where she served as chief data, AI and analytics officer, overseeing the company’s AI transformation. She previously held senior technology roles at BP, Uber, and Toyota.
Home Depot CEO Ted Decker said Bell’s experience in data and AI will support efforts to improve customer experience and streamline operations.
“Fran is a respected leader in data science and AI, and she understands the power of technology to improve the customer experience,” Decker said. “Her expertise will be invaluable as we invest to remove friction and make home improvement seamless for our associates and customers.”
Bell will oversee the development and integration of AI and machine learning tools across the business, with a focus on connecting digital and physical channels and improving how customers and associates interact with the company’s systems.
“The most powerful technology is the kind you don’t notice, because it’s busy behind the scenes making your life easier,” Bell said. “I look forward to working with this team to build smarter ways to get the job done.”
The appointment comes as Home Depot continues to invest in ecommerce, data, and its professional contractor business. The company operates more than 2,300 stores and over 1,250 SRS distribution locations across North America.
