Graybar to Acquire Southern California Distributor AES

Why This Matters to Distributors: The acquisition highlights continued consolidation in electrical distribution as national players seek stronger regional density, contractor relationships, and logistics scale in high-growth markets. For distributors operating in California and other major metro regions, the deal underscores how local market presence, service capabilities and geographic reach are becoming increasingly important competitive advantages as infrastructure, industrial automation and commercial construction spending continue to drive demand.

Graybar said Tuesday it plans to acquire American Electric Supply, expanding its presence in one of the nation’s largest electrical and industrial markets.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition remains subject to shareholder approval.

Founded in 1984, American Electric Supply serves commercial and industrial customers throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and San Diego counties.

Graybar said AES will continue operating under its existing name following the acquisition and will retain its current employees, supplier relationships, and locations.

“We look forward to welcoming the American Electric Supply team to Graybar,” CEO Kathleen Mazzarella said. “With its superior customer service, dedicated employees and longstanding presence in Southern California, we believe this acquisition will support Graybar’s ongoing growth in the region.”

The acquisition adds to continued consolidation across the electrical and industrial distribution sector as distributors seek greater scale, regional density, and stronger contractor relationships in high-growth markets.

Southern California remains a key market for electrical distributors because of continued investment in commercial construction, logistics infrastructure, manufacturing, utilities, and data centers.

Graybar operates 355 distribution facilities across North America and distributes electrical, industrial, automation, and connectivity products, along with supply chain and logistics services.
