Decks & Docks Co. has entered the Pennsylvania market with the acquisition of Service Wholesale, Inc. (SWI), a Downingtown-based distributor of building and remodeling materials. The move gives the Florida-based distributor its first location in the state and expands its product line to include roofing and siding.
SWI, founded in 1987 and purchased by the Schmidt family in 1995, has built a presence among contractors, deck builders, and remodelers in southeastern Pennsylvania. The company distributes composite decking, fencing, roofing, siding, and other building products. Brothers Eric and Matthew Schmidt, who succeeded their father in 2009, will continue leading the business under the Decks & Docks name.
“Their addition strengthens our position in the Mid-Atlantic and improves our ability to serve contractor customers in Pennsylvania,” said Shawn Roberts, chief executive officer of Decks & Docks.
The deal not only gives Decks & Docks one of the region’s largest independent distributors of composite decking but also extends its reach into adjacent categories that are in steady demand.
“This transaction allows us to expand our product offering and continue supporting our customers and employees,” Eric and Matthew Schmidt.
Tyler Wallace, president of Decks & Docks, said SWI’s strength in roofing and siding aligns with the company’s growth strategy. “SWI’s expertise in these sectors is a logical extension of our business,” he said.
Founded in 1991, Decks & Docks is headquartered in Clearwater, Fla., and operates 58 facilities across 20 states. The company supplies decking, railings, pilings, and seawalls to contractors nationwide and has steadily expanded through acquisitions.
