Do it Best, Fort Wayne, Ind., hardware, lumber and building materials buying cooperative, and United Hardware, Maple Grove, Minn., wholesale hardware distributor, have announced their plans to merge.

The intent to merge received unanimous approval from the boards of directors of both companies. They expect the merger to deliver benefits to member-owners, employees and customers through enhanced scale, efficiency and innovation. United Hardware shareholders will vote to make the merger official in the coming weeks.
If the merger becomes finalized, it will combine United Hardware’s over 700 stores and Do it Best’s annual sales of nearly $5 billion.
