FreightCar America said it has completed the acquisition of Carly Railcar Components, adding a privately held distributor of railcar parts to its business as it expands its aftermarket operations.
Carly Railcar Components distributes original equipment manufacturing (OEM) railcar parts and operates a core-exchange program for reconditioned components. Founded in 1995, the company serves repair shops, railroads, private railcar owners, and other industrial customers. It maintains a regional footprint that includes a Houston-area facility in Orange, Texas.
FreightCar America said the acquisition strengthens its aftermarket distribution business, particularly in running-repair components—frequently replaced parts that generate recurring demand. The company said customers are expected to benefit from shorter lead times and a broader selection of ready-to-ship components.
Nicholas Randall, president and chief executive officer of FreightCar America, said Carly Railcar’s distribution capabilities and regional presence complement the company’s existing railcar and component offerings and support its strategy to expand aftermarket capabilities.
Chief financial officer Mike Riordan said Carly Railcar brings established customer relationships and that combining the businesses is expected to improve operations across the company’s distribution network. He said the transaction aligns with FreightCar America’s capital allocation strategy and is expected to be immediately accretive.
FreightCar America, headquartered in Chicago, manufactures railroad freight cars and supplies railcar parts and components. The company also provides railcar repair, rebody and conversion services, targeting both new-build and aftermarket demand in North America’s rail sector.
