Genuine Cable Group has acquired United Wire & Cable, a Toronto-based supplier of proprietary power cable systems serving data centers, power and industrial markets across North America, the companies announced.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
United Wire & Cable will operate within Genuine Cable Group’s Custom Engineered Solutions segment, strengthening the distributor’s capabilities in engineered and proprietary power systems used in mission-critical infrastructure.
Founded more than four decades ago as a family-owned business, United Wire & Cable manufactures cable bus feeder systems under its MAXIAMP brand, along with vertical mineshaft cables, field safety tools, and other power cable products. The company serves customers across North America through a network of direct and indirect sales representatives.
Glenn Pennycook, chief executive officer of Genuine Cable Group, said United Wire & Cable’s product portfolio and technical expertise align with GCG’s focus on engineered solutions for complex applications.
“UWC and GCG share a strong customer-first culture rooted in technical expertise and responsive service,” Pennycook said. “UWC’s differentiated product portfolio and deep application knowledge in power and critical infrastructure make them a natural fit within our Custom Engineered Solutions segment.”
United Wire & Cable is led by second-generation owners Laura-Anne Tredenick and Robyn Baldasti. The company will continue operating under its existing brand.
“Joining GCG represents an exciting next chapter for UWC,” Tredenick and Baldasti said in a joint statement. “GCG’s scale, resources and portfolio of complementary solutions will allow us to better support our customers and suppliers while maintaining the culture, relationships and service model that define UWC.”
The acquisition enhances GCG’s presence in high-growth applications, particularly data centers and mission-critical power infrastructure, the company said. As part of GCG, United Wire & Cable will gain access to expanded supply chain and operational resources.
The transaction marks GCG’s 11th acquisition in the past six years, reflecting a broader strategy to expand its portfolio of proprietary products and engineered solutions tied to critical infrastructure markets.
Genuine Cable Group is a value-added distributor of wire, cable, connectivity and automation products serving industrial automation, communications, data centers, and industrial original equipment manufacturers. The company also operates cable assembly facilities and supplies wire and cable products to the U.S. Navy.
