Henry Schein One is expanding its partnership with Amazon Web Services to embed generative AI across its global dental software suite — a move that ties artificial intelligence not just to patient care, but to the digital distribution networks that keep dental practices running.
The collaboration integrates AWS’s AI infrastructure into Henry Schein One’s platforms — including Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend, and Dentally — creating what the companies call an “AI-first” model for dental practice management. The effort aims to automate documentation, streamline scheduling, and enhance patient communications, while also connecting practice data to the broader healthcare supply chain.
“This collaboration represents a pivotal moment for dentistry,” said Ryan Hungate, chief clinical and strategy officer at Henry Schein One. “Cutting-edge AI is finally meeting clinical expertise. We’re reimagining how dental care is delivered, documented, and optimized around the world.”
At the core of the initiative are AWS tools such as Amazon Bedrock and Transcribe Medical, which enable the development and deployment of generative AI models. New features include a real-time documentation assistant that captures and summarizes patient interactions, and voice-activated charting that allows for hands-free data entry.
Beyond clinical use, Henry Schein said it will use AI to deliver predictive business insights, automate claims validation, and optimize pricing — capabilities that could extend across its broader distribution network. The company is exploring ways to link AI signals from practice management systems to product demand, inventory planning, and fulfillment operations, potentially reducing waste and improving delivery accuracy.
For AWS, the partnership demonstrates how cloud-based AI can drive operational changes across healthcare sectors. “We’re proud to combine AWS’s AI services with Henry Schein One’s deep domain expertise in dentistry,” said Dan Sheeran, vice president and general manager of healthcare and life sciences at AWS. “Together, we’re building solutions that improve patient outcomes and reduce the administrative burden on providers.”
Henry Schein One said it plans to roll out the new capabilities in the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union, leveraging AWS’s global infrastructure for scalability and compliance.
By combining cloud computing, data, and AI, Henry Schein is positioning itself as more than a healthcare distributor — evolving into a digital orchestrator linking clinical care, product distribution, and data-driven business operations.
“By uniting technology and clinical practice,” Hungate said, “we’re building a smarter, more connected ecosystem that benefits patients, providers, and the entire supply chain.”
