Privately owned housing starts in March were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,324,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is 11.4% below February 2025 but 1.9% above March 2024.

Single-family housing starts were 14.2% below February.
Privately owned housing units authorized by building permits in March were 1.6% above February and 0.2% below March 2024. Single-family authorizations in March were 2% below February. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were 445,000 in March.
Housing completions in March were 2.1% below February and 3.9% above March 2024. Single-family housing completions in March were 0.9% above February. The March rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 503,000.
