Metalworking Machinery Orders Up 9.9% in February 2025

Metalworking machinery orders in the U.S. totaled $389.9 million in February 2025, up 9.9% from January 2025 and 12.5% from January 2024, according to a report published by the Association of Manufacturing Technology (AMT).

Year-to-date orders reached $744.7 million, up 8.8% over the first two months of 2024.

Machine tool order units have increased 9.6% above the first two months of 2024 in addition to an uptick in order value.

Orders from contract machine shops increased by nearly 25% over January, though short of 2024 closing levels.

The value of aerospace products and parts orders declined sharply from January to February despite a slight increase in the number of units ordered. This indicates an increase in machinery purchases to overcome capacity constraints.

Order values of machinery placed by electrical equipment manufacturers remained flat from January to February, with number of units nearly doubling. Order activity remains elevated due to an ongoing transformer shortage but could be at risk if plans to shutter data center development expand.
