New Orders for Manufactured Durable Goods Down 5.2% in July 2023

The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the new orders for manufactured durable goods were down 5.2% in July 2023. The total for manufactured durable goods in July was $285.9 billion, down $15.5 billion from June 2023.

Excluding transportation, new orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.5% from June. Transportation equipment decreased $16.4 billion in July, down 14.3%.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods in July increased by $0.1 billion. Unfilled orders increased 0.5%. Inventories of manufactured durable goods decreased by $0.2 billion, and nondefense new orders for capital goods in July decreased by $16.6 billion or 15.6%.
