Global electrical distributor Sonepar said its digital job center, an online project management platform for electrical contractors, has surpassed $2 billion in sales since launching, a milestone the company said reflects the construction industry’s accelerating shift toward digital tools and automation.
The platform, used by contractors, manufacturers, and distributors nationwide, allows teams to collaborate on orders, materials, and timelines within a single system. Sales through the platform grew 30% year over year, Sonepar said, as contractors adopt digital solutions to offset labor shortages and improve efficiency.
“It’s the best tool in the industry — made with contractors, for contractors,” said Don Sarno, senior vice president of digital enterprise for Sonepar Americas. “For five years, our customers have been placing orders and managing projects through the digital job center, and we’ve been collecting feedback, adjusting the interface, and adding new features. Our goal is to take low- and no-value work off their hands.”
The latest redesign was informed by interviews and testing with more than 50 contractors, according to Sonepar. During beta testing, project managers were able to navigate the platform without formal training.
“We heard from project managers that they want simplicity, speed, and transparency,” Sarno said. “The feedback was phenomenal. Customers were able to use the platform on their first login without any instruction.”
Sonepar plans to roll out new features in the coming months, including real-time inventory visibility, shipment tracking from both Sonepar and manufacturers, and direct access to backorder data. The company also plans to introduce wire management tools to streamline installation logistics.
To underscore the role of digital tools in reducing costly job-site errors, Sonepar has launched a marketing campaign featuring short videos illustrating common contractor challenges such as misplaced orders and fragmented communication.
The digital job center is part of Sonepar’s broader omnichannel and automation strategy in North America, where the company operates more than 570 branches and employs 12,800 people.
The family-owned distributor, which reported $35.2 billion in global sales in 2024, continues to expand its digital ecosystem to connect procurement, logistics, and project management for trade professionals.
Sonepar said the digital job center will remain central to its strategy of helping contractors manage increasing project complexity and labor constraints through digital transformation.
