One of the nation’s largest distributors of wine, fine spirits, and related alcohol is expanding its distribution center network.
Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has opened a new, 375,000-square-foot facility in Geismar, Louisiana, aimed at increasing operational efficiency and improving service to customers and suppliers across the region, the company says.
The new center is designed to support long-term growth in Louisiana and serve as a key logistics hub between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The facility integrates advanced automation and energy-saving technologies, reflecting Southern Glazer’s broader push to modernize its national supply chain infrastructure, Southern Glazer’s said.
The site includes a high-efficiency conveyor system with an automated palletizer, LED lighting, and climate control systems designed to reduce energy consumption while maintaining product integrity. Southern Glazer’s partnered with global logistics automation firm Dematic to implement scalable material handling systems that can adjust as volume demands increase.
The investment is expected to significantly boost throughput and delivery speed, enabling faster and more reliable service for retail, bar, and restaurant customers. The facility also provides added capacity to meet rising demand in both on-premises and off-premises alcohol sales, according to Southern Glazer’s.
“This facility represents a pivotal investment in the future of our Louisiana operations,” said Southern Glazer’s vice president of operations, central region Jason Witty. “By increasing capacity and optimizing technology, we are strengthening our ability to serve customers with greater efficiency, ensuring they have access to the products they need when they need them.”
In addition to operational improvements, the Geismar center supports Southern Glazer’s sustainability goals by reducing the carbon footprint of its distribution network. The company says the new site is part of a larger, nationwide initiative to enhance logistics capabilities and adapt to shifting market conditions, including increasing demand for next-day delivery and broader product availability.
Southern Glazer’s operates in 44 states and the District of Columbia. The distributor’s operations include 15 million square feet of warehouse space, 3,000 trucks, 7.1 million customer deliveries and 5,600 wine and spirits brands.
