Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in December were down 29.9% from the prior-year period, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Units were down 1.6% from November 2022.
Single‐family authorizations in December were down 5% from the prior-year period. Authorizations of units were down 6.5% from November 2022.
Privately‐owned housing completions in December were up 6.4% from the prior-year period and down 8.4% from November 2021. Single‐family housing completions in December were down 8% from November 2021. An estimated 1,392,300 housing units were completed in 2022, up 3.8% from 2021.
