Producer Price Index Rises 0.7% in January

The Producer Price Index rose 0.7% in January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The index for final demand goods rose by 1.2%, while prices for final demand services advanced by 0.4%.

On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand rose 6% for the 12 months ended January 2023.  

Prices for processed goods rose by 1% in January, while the index for unprocessed goods fell 5%. The index for services increased by 0.5%. Prices for final demand energy rose by 5%. Prices for final demand less foods, energy and trade services rose 0.6%.  

For the 12 months ending in January 2023, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 4.5%.
